Who you are Matters
Describe where you come from
Where I come from will always be Hong Kong, I may not share the same culture as the majority of the population but I will always consider it where I come from and where home is.
Tell me where you're going
I honestly don't know where I'm going. I have a plan and an idea of where I would like to be and what I would like to do but I do not know where I'm going. I tend to believe that if I worry about today and the present the future will take care of itself.
"Yesterday is history, Tomorrow is a mystery, but Today is a gift." - Master Oogway
Tell me how you plan to get there
For me, I'm a bigger fan of visualization and preparation than planning on how to get somewhere. I think being prepared and open to opportunities has helped me be successful more in life. I don't think following one original plan has enabled me to get where I am currently.
"Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face." - Mike Tyson
How are you LIKE your parents
I'm alike my parents in our shared values, traditions, and sense of humor. I'm thankful I inherited my father's punctuality and not my mother's.
How are you UNLIKE your parents
I'm unlike my parents because of my upbringing. Unlike my parents, I grew up in a culture very different from my own and was exposed to a way of life that was vastly different from the one they knew growing up.
Have you developed your own expectations for yourself, or if you were honest, would you say you're operating under someone else's expectations?
If I were honest I would say that until recently I've been operating under someone else's expectations, however, I think more and more I am developing my own expectations for myself. Whether these expectations are truly my own or just expectations I've built off other's expectations I can't really say for certain.
Who, other than a relative, serves as a model for you of someone who lives life with great passion and personal responsibility?
Sylvester Stallone is someone whose life story I admire. His ability to endure hardship and still maintain self-belief when no one was giving him a chance I find really inspiring.
Connecting with the ANIMAL WORLD: What wild animal do you feel a special connection with, and why?
I would say a tiger not in the classic sense that they are good hunters but because they are solitary and spend most of their day relaxing in the shade.
Connecting with the NATURE KINGDOMS: Describe a significant childhood encounter with a tree or plant.
When I was nine I was visiting my grandparents in Arizona where I had my first and only encounter with jumping cacti. I was a little kid and curious and got too close and found out why how they got their namesake. To this day I'm weary of the plant.

Love the quote from Master Oogway. At this point in time I also dont really know where im going in life. Aside from broad goals I hope to accomplish way down the line I take everyday as it is, living it with happiness and virtue. That way regardless of where life takes me Ill still end up a good person.

I'd love to hear more about your childhood in Hong Kong as someone who shares a different culture from the majority. How do you think that shaped your viewpoint as a person?
ReplyDeleteI also like to be more open to opportunities as they come, instead of worrying about the future so much. I am optimistic about what's to come, but focus more on the present. But unlike you, I inherited my mother's timing instead of my dad's...
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your first comment. Home is where you grow up regardless of if you're the same culture or not
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your Mike Tyson quote as it is applicable to every life as well. People must have the skill to adapt and overcome the obstacles that they face, even if their original plan has gone out the window.
